- Mastering Breech Birth: Hands on skill practice—Abby Kinne CPM—Practice breech maneuvers, without time pressure or risk of doing harm, using a lifelike birth simulation model with working newborn limbs and maternal pelvic structures. (max 25) $150
- The Artistry of Perineal Preservation and Repair—Carlotta Crawford CNM, MN, MPH; Maureen Barton, CNM, MS, FACCE, IBLC; Marecha Jackson MSN, CNM—This course presents methods for avoiding perineal lacerations and techniques for repair of the perineal and vaginal areas. The workshop will include demonstrations, discussion and practice. (min 10/max 20) $150
- Healing with our Hands: Craniosacral Therapy Foundation Skills—Carol Gray Midwife, LMT—Learn a little theory, and practice some hands-on to instantly benefit moms and babies. These tools blend perfectly with what you already know and do. (max 30) $150
- Ayurveda for Midwives—Terra Rafael Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner and RM—Understand Ayurveda basics. Learn and practice some of Ayurveda's physical exam techniques, including pulse. Find out about balancing therapies suitable for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. $108
- Neonatal Resuscitation for the OOH provider—Penny Lane MSN, CNM; Paula Miller MSN, RN—Students for this session must read the Neonatal Resuscitation Textbook (5th ed.) and successfully complete the on-line AAP NRP exam. A certificate of successful completion will be required prior to attendance in the course. (max 40). $164
- Herbs and homeopathy 101—Lisa Goldstein BFA, LM, CNM—Herbals & Homeopathics are often useful tools in pregnancy, birth, postpartum, menopause and newborn care. An 85 page book is included with this workshop. $94
- Complementary Medicine and Midwifery Care—Cathy Carlson-Rink BSPE, ND, RM—Discuss protocols for the use of complementary medicine in pregnancy, labour, postpartum, and lactation $125
- MEAC Accreditation: Sowing the Seeds of our Future through Midwifery Education—JoAnne Myers-Ciecko MPH, ED—MEAC accreditation is designed to strengthen and preserve the innovative programs designed by and for midwives. Participants will learn about accreditation, how to prepare a self-evaluation report, and what to expect during a site visit. (max 10) $120
- North American Registry of Midwives Written Examination (Those eligible to take the NARM Written Exam will be contacted by NARM.)
Half Day Morning Sessions, 8 am to 12 noon
- Shoulder Dystocia—Gail Tully BS, CPM—Each small group will practice hands-on maneuvers. Learn what to do for the other 60% when McRoberts doesn't work. After Gaskins', we use "FlipFLOP." (max 36) $75
- Understanding and Using Hypnosis as a Powerful Tool for Pregnancy, Birth and Postpartum—Mickey Jones BS, CLD, CD (DONA), HCHI, HCHD, IBCLC; Kate Cropp RNC, IBCLC, MSN, HCHI—There are many misconceptions surrounding hypnosis for childbirth. Learn the what, why and how of self-hypnosis for pregnancy, birth and postpartum to better support clients. $45
Half Day Afternoon Sessions, 1 pm to 5 pm
- Healing From A Difficult Birth: For Midwives, Doulas, Nurses, and Physicians—Yeshi Neumann MPH, CNM—An opportunity for us, as care providers, to do personal healing work regarding difficult births we have attended in a safe, respectful, and compassionate environment. (sliding scale) $50-75
- Excellence Through Accreditation—Denise Roy MSN, CNM—Discuss the advantages of birth center accreditation; learn the steps to accreditation (see www.mana.org/mana2010 for additional information). $75
Thursday Preconference Day on the Farm, two options
8:00 am: The bus will leave the hotel for both options.
Option one: Neonatal Resuscitation Program—Carol Nelson CPM-TN, LM; Joanne Santana RN, CPM-TN; Deborah Flowers RN, CPM-TN—Students for this session must read the Neonatal Resuscitation Textbook (5th ed.) and successfully complete the on-line AAP NRP exam. A certificate of successful completion will be required prior to attendance in the course. (limit 12 recertifications and 12 new certifications)—
9:00-1:00 pm: Recertification (must have current card) $150
9:00-5:00 pm: All day for new providers $200
Option two: General sessions and four breakout sessions $200

Thursday Extracurricular Activities—
Window of the South Tour—$30-adults/$15 children—Visit the famous Carnton Plantation (feature in the book Window of the South). The home of the McGavocks became the largest Confederate field hospital and in several rooms heavy bloodstains still mar the floors. Adjacent is the resting place of 1481 Southern soldiers on 2 acres of land. Then experience Historic Downtown Franklin with a guided walking tour that provides an enlightening look at the town's past. The quaint downtown area is enriched by the many unique shops, fun pubs, and fine dining.
Adventure Science Center—$15-adults/$10 children—The thrill of scientific discovery awaits you! Come explore over 150 interactive exhibits and programs for children and adults. View the heavens from the 40-foot Sudekum Planetarium. Explore the wonders of the human body in Health Hall or the world of computers in the New Century Computer Lab. Little ones cannot resist the Curiosity Corner. Planetarium shows occur daily and new exhibits open regularly.
Visit Downtown Nashville—$50—Travel into the heart of Music City, where you can walk the streets or take a carriage ride in Nashville's entertainment district. Visit The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum located on the west bank of the Cumberland River, just a few steps from the historic Ryman Auditorium and the honky-tonks of Lower Broadway.
Canoe the Harpeth—$45—The Harpeth Is a Class 1 river, which means that It’s slow-moving with a few mild rapids thrown In to wake the paddlers up. It’s an easy float for anyone who wants to fish, swim or just relax. Around almost every bend of the sinuous Harpeth Is a gravel or sand bar on which to stop and swim sun or picnic. River critters you're likely to see Include otters, beaver, deer, blue herons, ducks, snakes and turtles. The scenery Itself Is an eyeful – mile after mile of overhanging trees Interspersed with grassy fields and towering rock cliffs.
