After the MANA Mexico conference, spend the month of July working alongside Traditional Midwives in Chiapas!
Parteras Hermanas is a cultural exchange program to connect a sister midwife in the United States with a sister midwife in Mexico. As midwives in the United States, we provide services for women from many diverse backgrounds. In particular, Mexican and Mexican American communities exist all over the U.S. and in general have a strong commitment to natural birth. Mexican women are birthing at higher numbers within the U.S. than immigrating to the U.S. Therefore, it is essential that midwives in the U.S. improve their skills to provide culturally competent, effective care to Mexican communities.
The purpose of Partera Hermana is twofold: to educate midwives based in the United States in the practice of midwifery in Mexico to better serve Mexican, Mexican American, and Chicana clients in the U.S.; and to give Mexican midwives an opportunity to share their vast experience, knowledge, and traditions with U.S. midwives.

For one month you will live in the home of a traditional midwife in San Cristobal working alongside her attending prenatal, homebirth, and postpartum care. Three days a week you will attend Spanish class in accordance with your level of Spanish, and twice a week you will attend circle at the Luna Maya with other midwives from the U.S. and San Cristobal to share knowledge and tricks of the trade.
Apply for the program soon as spaces are limited and are filling!
